Lorenzo de' Medici is the son of Piero and Teresa de' Medici, born into the most powerful and wealthy banking family in Italy. He is close friends with Leonardo da Vinci, Machiavelli and Tomaso Gherardini. He was later engaged to Angelica Visconti, daughter of the Duke of Pisa, much to his displeasure.

Biography[]

Born on the 9th June 1453, he shared the same birthday as his father, Piero. (The Lightning Box)

At some point, Lorenzo became close friends with Leonardo da Vinci and Niccolo Machiavelli.

Lorenzo and his friends meet Tomaso Gherardini and soon find out that Tom is a girl named Lisa, disguised as a boy so that she can paint. (Anything is Possible)

Unknown to Lorenzo, his father is the leader of the Luminari, a group dedicated to bringing the Duke of Florence to his knees and was responsible for the theft of Leonardo's notebook. (Da Vinci's Code)

At the Medici's celebrity party, Lorenzo's friends find out about Piero's involvement in the Luminari. However, Leo, Lisa and Mac are refrain from telling Lorenzo. Leo and Lisa don't want to hurt Lorenzo while Mac suspects Lorenzo may be involved. (Servant of Florence)


When Lorenzo discovers his father is responsible for the Mechanical Man terrorising Florence, he feels betrayed when he learns his friends knew. He takes his father's side, believing Piero has the city's best intentions at heart, and attacks Mac when he points out Piero just wants it for himself. (Enter the Robot)

Three months later, Lorenzo is seen to be feeling depressed and alone, ignored by his former friends. When Andrea del Verrocchio is framed by Piero for the murder of Antonio Costa, he is shocked but does not believe Leonardo when he tells him Piero is behind it. Piero tells Lorenzo it is true to which Lorenzo offers Leo his help, letting him borrow his horse, Carlos. After Leo is arrested in a failed attempt to help Verrocchio escape, Lorenzo confronts his father and threatens to disown him if he doesn't put an end to the revenge. Piero pretends to be moved by this and managed to have Verrocchio declared an innocent man. Lorenzo comes to the workshop but it is clear the still aren't ready to accept him back as their friend. The Medicis throw an extravagant ball for carnival time, to which Lorenzo invites the gang, in an attempt to become friends again. They at first decline but Leo eventually agrees, even accompanying his singing on the Viola organista. At the masked ball, Teresa announces Angelica Visconti to be Lorenzo's future wife at which point a masked figure, Greco, appears and kidnaps Lorenzo and Lisa, mistakenly due to wearing an identical dress to Angelica. Although the pair manage to escape, Lorenzo is again kidnapped by another crook, Moretti. He is rescued by the gang who take him back to the palace. It becomes the clear Piero paid Greco to kidnap him so that they could blame it on Milan. (The Betrothal Ball)

Lorenzo's wedding to Angelica is cancelled when Leo, Lisa and Mac trick the Medicis into marrying a fictitious princess instead. Angelica returns to Pisa with her father and Lorenzo is overjoyed that he is free once more. (Hitched)

Lorenzo discovers from a badly injured Placidi that Piero was behind his kidnap and plans to kill Rocco de' Medici and use the Tank to take over Europe. Lorenzo does not believe him until he takes the key Placidi gives him to the Via Trento where he was taken and his life threatened. Realising who his father really is, Lorenzo frees Leo, Mac and Rocco but is unable to fight his father. Later, after Leo defeats Piero in a duel, Lorenzo testifies against his dad to save his friends, and watched as his father is taken to jail. During the celebrations of the end of the war, Lorenzo is glum but Mac cheers him up as the four are thanked by Duke Rocco for their service to Florence. (The Dogs of War)

Personality[]

Lorenzo is funny, excitable and lives for the adventure of sneaking out of the place to have fun with his friends. A keen fencer, he is always trying to impress his father, whom he thinks is unimpressed with him, unknowing that his father is leader of the Luminari. His rich upbringing means he is naive and easily led, however as he matures, he is shown to have a good and courageous heart and is loyal to his friends.
