Andrea del Verrocchio is the owner and master of the Workshop and the Maestro to his apprentices Leonardo da Vinci and Tomaso Gherardini, and servant, Cosimo. He is cantankerous and strict, disapproving of his apprentices being idol or late but this comes from his passion for art and, behind his no-nonsense exterior, he is a kind man who cares deeply about all the members of his workshop.
Biography[]
In his childhood, Verrocchio was once playing with some boys and throwing rocks. By accident, he hit one of the boys with one. The boy later died. The guilt stayed with Verrocchio as grew up. (Framed)
Verrocchio trained at the Acadamy of Art in Rome as a young boy and excelled in painting, sculpture and carpentry. He was neither married nor had children. He owned a small workshop in the town and had several apprentices including, Leonardo da Vinci, Tomaso and Giuseppe. He is always acomponied my his man servent Cosimo. (Anything is Possible)
As part of his revenge on Leonardo da Vinci, Piero de' Medici had Antonio Costa commission a portrait from Verrocchio. After the painting was finally completed, Costa refused to pay for it and shamed Verrocchio in the middle of town. Piero then had Placidi murder Antonio Costa, and framed Verrocchio for the crime, planting a replica of Costa's purse at the workshop. He is arrested and set to be hanged. Leo visits him and Verrocchio tells him the story of when he killed a boy with a rock, accidentally, the same way Costa is said to have died. (Framed)
Leonardo had himself arrested and, together, he and Verrochio painted a replica of the prison wall. Hiding behind it, it appeared that Verrochio had escaped, allowing them to subsequently escape through the door left open by the guard. Verrocchio fled but was caught. However, Piero, as he needed Leo to think he had had his revenge, called a stop to the execution. (Perspective)
Annoyed at Leo's neglect of commissions, Verrocchio sends him to scrub walls at the Pazzi Chapel. However impressed with his portrait of Lisa, Verrocchio sells it to Gia Bonetti, unaware that it is unfinished. Leo flips and shouts at Verrocchio to the shock of the whole workshop. The next day, Verrocchio buys it back much to Leo's joy. (Cat and Mouse)
Personality[]
The Maestro has a liking for Camomile tea, which he believes calms him in stressful situations. Although he can be moody and strict, he is, deep down, a kind man who cares deeply about his apprentices, and his servant Cosimo.
